The CBRF4i is one of those sportbikes from the days when they were relatively easy to work on. You do need basic motorcycle maintenance tools , but apart from that, here is what else you need to maintain your CBRF4i.
Honda provides a guide on difficulty. Items marked with one asterisk are moderately difficult, and they say that items with two asterisks should only be done by your dealer. Worry less. I'm going to guess that those are there to reduce the amount of intake noise because I know when I'm using all the power on mine it's effin' loud underneath that fuel tank. They look very much like air directors. Like bergs said probably acoustic. Never owned an f4i but worked on Honda's cars with friends. They do all kinds of weird shite when it comes to intake piping etc. Just ride the thing if you notice something adverse after changing the filter deal with it then. If not don't worry about it.
